Dear Medical Students of Asia and Oceania, | ||
| As Overall Chairperson of Asian Medical Students’ Association (AMSA) International, I welcome you to join our association, which aims to promote the cooperation of medical students in Asia and Oceania. AMSA is a non-political, non-sectarian, and non-profit conference-based organization that was officially founded in 1985. We currently have 13 member countries/regions; Australia, Bangladesh, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Pakistan, Malaysia, Philippines, Papua New Guinea, Taiwan, Thailand and the United Kingdom and 2 observers; Cambodia and Nepal. According to our philosophy of “Knowledge, Action, Friendship” our members have been actively involved in domestic and regional health issues over the last three decades. | ||
| Our largest and most important event is the Asian Medical Students’ Conference (AMSC), which is held annually in July/August and hosted by a member country/region. AMSC attracts over 400 medical students. The 27th AMSC was held in Hong Kong under the theme “Tobacco – its Burden on Health and Society” in July 2006 and the 28th AMSC will be held in Seoul, Korea under the theme “Cancer” from July 22 – 29, 2007. | East Asian Medical Students’ Conference (EAMSC) is another conference hosted by one of our member country/regions where over 100 medical students gather to discuss medical and health problems, exchange knowledge, and learn about cultural diversities. The 20th EAMSC was held in Taiwan from January 29 – February 2, 2007. | ||

We are very eager to welcome new countries into our family. Last year, we set up a Travel Assistance Grant and now provide financial assistance to new countries that wish to attend AMSA conferences. | ||
